Durable Paperback & Cute Story!

My kids love Flat Stanley so of course this book was a hit with them. My 8 year old loves that it is at his level and he loves to read it to his 3 year old sister. The book is a paperback that is packed with appropriate reading words for a Level 2 reader (its suggested 4-8 years old) and great illustrations. Even though this is a paperback it is surprisingly durable, and has held up to the constant use in our household of three kids! The story is super cute, but I warn you it will give you a craving for homemade cookies!

The books with the I can read levels are great... The books are well illustrated and just the right amount of time needed for a good night book. Our little one is too little to read just yet but loves Flat Stanley and they are his favorite. The cover of the book is strong to handle the little hands grabbing at it and the pages are a sting paper quality to be read every night.

Right Focus for Age, Need

We have used the Summer Bridge series for all 3 kids for the past 4 years. The books do a great job providing some structured learning for the kids over the summer. Do not expect this to be a summer tutor or be something to advance their skills. What it does well is give your kids some refresher activities to do on a daily/weekly basis just to keep their brains from turning to mush. What we really like about the Summer Bridge series is that there are "extra credit" tasks that really do go beyond their regular lessons, plus there are physical activities for the kids to perform at the end of each week. There are enough lessons to do one every day all summer long - about 15-20 min per page. Or you can group them and have your kids do a couple of hours of work in a block each week. Do not expect this to be something to keep your kids occupied for a couple of hours each day nor should you expect this to teach your kids alot of new things. It is a review / refresher approach that just keeps kids in the habit of engaging their brains!

A great resource workbook with many varied activites

This book has resources and activities for many different school subjects and tons of different types of activities. Summer Bridge did a great job of cramming everything that kids are supposed to learn into 150 pages of worksheets.

Unfortunately, the parent or teacher will need to do a lot of prep work, unless the kid is already used to navigating through worksheets without much explanation. Probably about half of the activities aren't explained well enough for a kid to do on their own. I did a lot of this book myself, and I had to look up terminology in about half of the activities. So, as something that a motivated kid would enjoy doing on their own, it falls a little flat. But maybe seventh graders are used to being thrown random activities that they have to look up on the internet before they can do them.

Also, there's an answer key at the end of the book, and a few pages of introduction explaining how the parent should use this book. It's supposed to be used during the three months in the summer, but you could use this at any time, even during the school year. So, this is an excellent resource book, and as long as you're not planning on giving this to your kid and walking away for the summer, this should be a great choice.

High Interest - Colorful, Quality, Well Organized Summer Learning

As a teacher I'm always on the lookout for quality educational materials that can be used both in class, and by my students for at home practice. This Summer Bridge Activities book caught my eye because it is targeted for students to be used during their traditional three month summer vacation, and bridges the gap between two grades by reviewing skills learned in the previous grade, and previewing upcoming skills in the next grade.

One of the most challenging times for teachers is working through the beginning of the year assessments, when teachers must determine how impactful the summer months have been to each students educational progress. The "summer slide" can significantly impact a students readiness for the next grade. However, with parent involvement & a little organized study time this slide can be minimized if not prevented. Summer can be an opportunity for learning that can really benefit a child's readiness for the next school year.

Each bridging grade practice book is very well made, the quality of the paper and cover are excellent, with the paper a proper weight & smoothness with strong clear colors and font styles. Each comes with a skills matrix that is easy to follow and informative. In addition, there's a summer reading list of excellent literature that is age appropriate and can be found on most teacher's must read list for a well rounded student. This is literature that parents will enjoy reading to their child, or for guiding young readers through.

Bridging Grades K to 1
The practice pages are very well organized and are divided into three sections of 20 days each. Each section or month begins with a "Monthly Goals" activity, a "Word List", and thought-provoking character development & fitness passages. Every couple of pages at the bottom, there's fun additions that get kids thinking & moving such as the "Factoid" blurb, the "Fitness Flash", and "Character Check". The daily lessons are numbered, and are logically laid out to first review skills of the previous grade, and then transition into introducing new skills. These are high interest and meaningful lessons presented by using a variety of learning techniques such as matching, cloze (identifying missing letters/words), colorful visuals, sorting, circling, coloring, games, puzzles, and solving problems using guiding arrows, boxes, and charts. Short reading comprehension passages include poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. Each lesson is full of colorful illustrations that help make learning fun & successful. In addition, at the end of each month there are fun science and social science bonus activities, as well as outdoor extension activities!

Finally, as with every early elementary bridge book, the Grades K to 1 book provides stickers to track your progress with, thick card-stock cutout flash cards that cover the alphabet, numbers, colors, math symbols, time/clocks, geometric shapes, math vocabulary such as "less than" & "greater than", counting by 10, and all the answers to each lesson. This is truly a comprehensive, high-interest, and meaningful summer program that will please parents, teachers, and students.

This is a story about Greek gods living on a space station way above a destroyed earth. Eros (known as cupid in Roman mythology) falls in love with Iona, who is so beautiful that the jealous Aphrodite (the most beautiful goddess of all) tries to ruin her. I recommend it for anyone who likes science fiction mixed with Greek mythology, as the author works that storyline very well.

Not just for fans of the show

A sturdy colorful board book that gives a positive peek at the perks of being a big sibling, this book is just what i was hoping for. It is not a direct adaptation of the corresponding episodes of the show but it hits all the same major points. It reads more like a day in the life of Daniel as a big brother. It could also stand alone for those that aren't familiar with the characters but want an uplifting sibling book. It does not focus on negative sibling interaction like some do, but instead boosts confidence by talking about how baby's nap can be special time for the rest of the family.

Cute & Simple for Daniel Tiger Fans!

This is a good book for anyone who is a Daniel Tiger fan! My daughter loves this show and so we ordered the book after telling her she would be a big sister. It's cute and has simple text and she likes it because she knows the characters. It talks about Daniel being happy to have a baby sister and it mentions that she is little and sometimes cries a lot. It talks about how Daniel is a big helper by helping his mom feed the baby a bottle and helping his dad with diapers, and he gets special time with Mom and Dad when she naps. Cute, simple, positive, and good for anyone who likes the show!! It repeats the phrase "You can be a big helper at your house" several times, which is also a song from a Daniel Tiger episode.

I got this book, along with a few others, for my 3 yo son when my daughter was born. He liked this one the best. He seemed to really relate to Daniel Tiger, and he wanted to help just like Daniel Tiger did.

Willy's Favorite Book!

My three year old, Willy loves the Rescue bot series. These books are a perfect fit for him. He loves them and it gives another way to give him his rescue bot fix with turning on a show! He asks for these every night since they arrived. I would highly recommend them for young children. As he ages he will be able to read these on his own as well because the books are written for early readers. I believe these will be a favorite for a few years in our house.

My 4 year old loves them!

The rescue bots books are so great for young readers! The story lines are short and keep my son very interested. He loves his favorite Transformer heroes and even likes to get out his rescue bot toys and act out the stories as we read them. We read every night at bed time and he even asks to go to bed early so we can read an extra book. I'm very thankful for Transformer and Rescue Bot books!

An inspiring story for all ages

This inspiring picture book by author Laurie Ann Thompson tells the moving true story of Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah, a young man born with a severe disability in rural Ghana who nonetheless bicycled across the entire country, raising awareness for disabled people throughout Africa and around the world. The book opens with a touching tableau--a beautiful baby boy has been born, but with only one strong leg. We can see the despair in the father's posture and the fear in the mother's eyes as she looks at the baby's father. Disabled children in Ghana were not only considered worthless-they were considered a curse, and the baby's father soon abandons the family. The mother's hope is seen in her naming the baby "Emmanuel," which means "God is with us." Emmanuel's mother refuses to allow her child to become a beggar, as was the custom for disabled people in Ghana; instead she helps him to become self-sufficient, hopping to school, two miles each way. When his classmates scorned him, he saves money to buy something no one in the school had--a real soccer ball, and earns their respect by learning to play on just one leg. When his mother falls ill, Emmanuel moves to the big city to earn money to support his family. Sadly, his mother dies, but he honors her memory by dreaming up a way to show that disabled people could do anything--a bike ride around his country--nearly 400 miles. Support for what others deemed an impossible project came all the way from America, along with the equipment he needed. We see Emmanuel riding across the country, surrounded people cheering, including disabled countrymen. Thompson concludes this inspiring story as follows: "He completed his astounding journey...in just ten days. But Emmanuel's success goes even further than that. He proved that one leg is enough to do great things--and one person is enough to change the world."

In her first picture book, author Laurie Ann Thompson admirably succeeds in her mission of teaching children about social justice issues, a campaign she began in her young adult nonfiction book, Be a Changemaker, a how-to book for young social entrepreneurs. Thompson's tale is enhanced with mixed media illustrations by award-winning children's illustrator Sean Qualls (Before John Was a Jazz Giant and Skit-Scat Raggedy Cat among others). He uses a "primitive" style of illustration, relying on collage and paint to convey the emotion of Emmanuel's story.

An author's note explains that Emmanuel has continued to achieve great things, competing in major athletic events, carrying the Olympic torch, and starring in a documentary about his life, Emmanuel's Gift, which I will be putting on my Netflix queue. He continues to work to help disabled people, particularly in Ghana, realize their full potential.

This is a wonderful book to share with elementary school children; for older children it can be paired with viewing the documentary.

A wonderful story for children and adults alike

Having been a Special Education Teacher for the past 20+ years and working with children with many differing abilities, both cognitive and physical, Emmanuel's Dream really spoke to me. Laurie Thompson's ability to tell Emanuel's story by showing strength of character and perseverance is truly inspirational. A must read! A wonderful story for children and adults alike.

Summary: “In this world, we are not perfect. We can only do our best,” says Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah. When Emmanuel was born, his right leg was deformed. Growing up in Ghana, he learned to use his left leg well enough that he could hop the two miles to school, play soccer on crutches, and ride a bike. His mother was his biggest supporter, and when she died, her final words to him were, “Don’t give up.” Emmanuel used these words to inspire himself to pursuit his dream…riding a bicycle from one end of Ghana to the other. Wearing a shirt reading “The Pozo” (meaning “the disabled person”), he fulfilled his dream of riding over 400 miles in just one day. He’s continued to raise awareness about the disabled in his country, and was instrumental in the 2006 passage of the Ghanaian Persons With Disabilities Act. Grades 1-6.

Pros: An inspiring read for anyone to pursue their dreams.

Cute book for small children who like to draw their own backgrounds.

The butterflies are beautiful and come in all sorts of shapes. My niece likes this book and she draws the background around the butterfly since this book mainly focuses on the animal only. I recommend this book for small children, but not adults who want to color, unless they like to draw their own backgrounds in. The description is clear that there are not any backgrounds though and the book is best for small children. The lined pages at the end are helpful for writing practice.

The butterflies in the book are all different designs. They are fairly small (one butterfly per page with a blank background). I was disappointed that Half of the book is butterflies and the other half is lined paper for writing. Wish that it was in the description because I would have ordered another book for the price...

I purchased this Board Book for my friend's 2 year-old who loves anything Paw Patrol, and he enjoys it so much, he brings it with him everywhere. The colors are not only stunning, but are also educational for learning. The book is fun-filled, made of good quality, and will last a long time. It provides fun-filled entertainment, and is also great for sharing with other young children in social group discussions. A great pre-school gift. Highly recommended to parents, teachers, and child-care providers!

Glad I Got It

I bought this for my 2 yr. old grandson, and though I only recently received (because it's newly available) I think it's a really cute book, both the colorful pages and what's written. It seems age appropriate for him, but I don't know about older than 3 yrs. old. Glad I got it.
