Unhappy daughter = unhappy mom

I got this for my daughter, we ordered all Spectrum books in January but this is the only one we had issues with. We had to use other books as well as the internet to answer a majority of questions since it doesn't go into great detail. I would have purchased a different book had I known this beforehand, she got frustrated because she was unable to find the answers in the book and had to look in different places to answer a somewhat easy question.

I thought there would be more info in here that I could use.. but really it's just an overview of world geography... I won't be using it... I love all the Spectrum books, but I think you can just find more online than use this for 6th grade geography... Not what I was looking for.

A great book for your little ones!

Raven is a fairy princess and in all sense of the world a brat :) When a new prince moves in and people start liking him, Raven doesn't like this and starts to distance herself from all her friends. One event can change all of that...

I thought this was really a good book for kids teaching them that all though you have your friends accepting new ones into your inner circle is a good thing. It also teaches kids that being nice is always that way to go and that getting your way all the time doesn't pay in the long run. I read this with my daughter and she really liked it! Great job Kymberlee!!

This is a beautiful and fun read. I loved how the author brought the characters to life and how she spun a lesson into it. It's a wondrous read for children of all ages to treasure for a lifetime of magical bedtime reading. I see this as being a true classical little series that will be talked about years to come.

A wonderful world of action, power, suspense, and characters that feel destined for a movie adaptation

As a lover of sci-fi fantasy style books I stumbled upon this author not terribly long ago. After just finishing his latest book here, I must say that I remain duly impressed with his skill. First off the writer’s mechanics, style, plot progression, and character development skills are top notch. I cannot even consider reading a book without unique characters that I can love and hate. The protagonist in this novel is very three dimensional, making it easy to be concerned with what happens to him as the story line moves forward on a constant trajectory. I also loved the character Mimi who was always full of witty lines and a casual kick butt personality. This lady deserves a chance at being seen on the big screen.

Another aspect of the novel I enjoyed was the insight I retrieved from Jeremiah’s journal entries. They kept the plot personal, further adding to the depth of my understanding regarding how he feels and who he is. I also like many small scenes in the book that were a testament to the author’s skills with action and juggling multiple characters at once. The scene where Jeremiah and Orlin floated through a town to help round up Leftovers was visually captivating and I found myself smiling at the view in my head of such a spectacle. Even after that was over, the ominous actions of Lucifer still echoed as he worked toward his ominous master plan. As a note, if you like awesome sidekicks, Orlin is spectacular. I love the scenes when he takes action, especially one in a specific lab against a professor. The spectacle of Orlin’s revenge was just delectable.

In summation, if you like your fantasy and sci-fi well written with unique characters and an intriguing protagonist duo, you will love this book. I found myself reading until way past my bedtime because I just had to see what happened next. That to me is always the sign of a great work of fiction. I have no doubt you will feel the same.

He is creating a more humane world afterall.

I have read several of Patrick Hatt’s works, both in his children’s line and some titles aimed at his more mature audience. Stumbling across another offering by him was pure gold – and an instant buy. I was unaware at the time that this is the fifth in a series, and while that fact is certainly important to the overall story sequence, this book does boast the aplomb to stand alone, albeit without a few legs to its foundation.
Jumping in five tales deep is a bit intimidating, yet Hatt plays his pen well and creates a story that I could follow, and enjoy, even if some of the back drop was missing. Jeremiah and Orlin have survived the impossible, and somehow come out the other side of the apocalypse (??) as a changed man (and cat) – though they are far from the only changes around. This world has awoken different, there are creatures known as The Nothings prowling, vampires, zombies and who knows what else in the darkness.
Plot and character heavy, this title pulls at Hatt’s considerable talent to continue such a sci-fi, and make it interesting. This may be my first foray into the ‘A Not so _____ World’ series, but I am going to back track and pick up the other titles now – and feverously wait for the sixth one!

A Not So Humane World is a hidden gem in the sci-fi world of books!

Pat Hatt has done it again. After reading a few of his other books I have come to embrace his unique writing style that is unlike any other that I have read. This book is written with such vivid descriptions of great adventures that I could easily picture what was taking place. I completely agree with the review by Stacco as he hit the nail on the head when it comes to a great description of this book. After reading 'A Not So Humane World' I am going to purchase the rest of the 'A Not So' series as I want to see the beginning and where it all started. Jeremiah's character is a ton of fun and getting to follow him through this book was fantastic! At the beginning of book when it talks about 'Mimi' holding a mini gun I started laughing hysterically. All I could picture was 'Mimi' from the Drew Carey show with a minigun! Past that hilarious image though, this book is a worthwhile read that will take you away into a world that is not so humane!

Don't Judge a Book by its Cover

This is a super cute picture book about a monster who gets excited when he sees bunnies. He doesn't realize they think he is going to eat them, he is just excited to see them! He goes along say "Hi" to things throughout the woods and then gets sad because he is alone. Once the bunnies realize he is harmless (don't judge a book by its cover) they go say Hi back to him! The illustrations are colorful and my 3 year old laughs and laughs when I read this book, of course using a monster voice.

When the Movie Ends, This Book Begins!

All Hail the Queen - the first in the Anna & Elsa chapter books' series is absolutely wonderful! It's a great buy for any Frozen fan, and a good way to sneak in some reading for those who aren't in love with books..

First, let's just say that it's about time someone paid attention during their attempt at capitalizing on a huge popular movie! As a mom to a very clever 5 year old, I'm constantly trying to answer questions about how Ariel turned back into a mermaid even though she was a person at the end of the movie... or how Rapunzel's hair grew back to such length's and changed back to blond... and all other such wonderful questions because the movie will leave off in one way, only for someone to start a new tv show or book that doesn't quite match. If you're like me - you won't have to worry with this series! Whew!!

So, all that being said, this first book starts off where the movie ended... Anna and Elsa are great friends, the castle is open, and the girls are exploring and learning. There's fun adventure and silly sister happenings, all in staying true to the characters that we fell in love with through the movie. It's a pretty simple read for a chapter book - not as difficult as a Magic Tree House, but consistent with the other Disney and Nancy Clancy type books - so it's great for newly independent readers or for bedtime reading to a not-quite-there-yet-reader. :)

Once you get this first one, you'll be sure to order the second in the series... and then pre-order the third...

This middle grade series was a miss for me...

So, I have taken it upon myself to read all the books that my daughter is reading. Not just to content check, but to make sure she's reading it for AR lol.

Anyways, I found this story really dry, even for a children's book. Not just that but the book was littered with grammar errors, poor sentences, and very stilted dialogue. I could've written more realistic dialogue from Anna and Elsa, any parent who has seen the movie a gazillion times with their kids could write Anna and Elsa better than this book. I know that I'm being a bit mean, but if you are a big five pub and you're going to agree to take on a Frozen chapter book series you better buck up and do it justice.

I found that it took until over halfway through the book for the story to really kinda be 'fun'. My daughter even struggled through this and fought me on reading it saying , "This is really boring mom, can I just read something else." I told her it gets better, and she seems to agree once Elsa started using her powers. That is another thing. They almost make her powers seem like a bad thing while trying to 'tell their lesson' I thought the whole point of Frozen was a whole "Baby, I was born this way." deal. I'm not sure how Random House got the rights to write this, I honestly believe if this would've stayed in the hands of Disney Hyperion they would've found someone better to take on this series. I made the mistake of buying book two for my daughter. I think we will be going back to the Equestria Girl's books and NeverGirls.

In summary: Disappointing, stilted, poor grammar that shouldn't be allowed in children's books, and a contradictory 'life lesson' makes this children's series a miss for me. I wouldn't recommend it to fans of Frozen.

I bought this for my 3rd grader to practice reading to me. It's working out very nicely. She loves the "Frozen" theme and she loves reading the story and showing me and her brother the pictures.

Not for the faint at heart

If a good spoof is what floats your boat, this one on Greek mythology will send it rocking. With my vague (read: bored) recollection of the school subject, each new turn of the plot these two iconoclasts came up with gave me another good belly laugh. Great fun and more of same in the sequel "Sex, Drug and Rock `n' Roll: The Story of Dionysus".

The truth about the "short version"

You've probably noticed a lot of the "complaints" are that Amazon ships this book in the "short" version form. Well, that's not Amazons fault. Priddy books started back in like 2002 or 03 and each of their books (Turtle, Bee, Chick) had about 10 pages of fun animal characters that included cute rhymes, tactile features, and fun sounds. Apparently, in 2007 or so they re-did the books and took them all down to 6 pages (some think it was a copyright issue, others say it was for safety reasons). So whether you buy this from Amazon or your nearby book store (ie Barnes and Noble) you're going to wind up with the "cheaper quality," short version.

Knowing this was a possibility I bought it anyway because there are still some good reviews for the shorter version. Now, I wish I hadn't bought it. Sure, the colors are bright and it's a cute book that baby enjoys (which is the only reason it gets 3 stars, my review would only be 2). But the threading around the turtle started coming off after just an hour or so of play. The only page that makes any noise is the cover (it's just the standard crinkly noise all cloth book covers seem to make). The tactile (whale string, seahorse fin) are too small for my 6 month olds hands (or maybe eyes) to reach (or care about). He only enjoys this book for the same reasons he enjoys any other cloth book. It's nothing special, and for $10.00 I wish I had chosen a Lamaze book instead. The Lamaze books I've seen have more pages and more tactile options. Also, they tell a story that connects all the characters together. But for some strange reason they have lower ratings on here. From now on I'll try not to be fooled by high ratings and go with a product/brand name I know is good quality.

Finally a baby rhyme book we can BOTH enjoy

We received "Squishy Turtle and Friends" as a Christmas present for our 9 month old and it is one of his favorite books -- and mine too. Each sea creature is interestingly textured and the short, 2 line rhymes on each of the 8 pages are clever and I actually enjoy reading them out loud. Of course, he loves to linger on each page and feel the terry cloth starfish or pull back the pink plastic oyster shell, revealing a pearl. I found myself going crazy over some of the silly rhyming books I was reading over and over, and while he doesn't appreciate the cleverness of the rhymes in Squishy Turtle, I can, and that makes a big difference!
"Little fish with shiny scales
are fleeing from alarming whales!"
Doesn't get much better than that. And finally, it's a cloth book, so he can eat it when we get finished reading it!

Chewable book helps baby develop "appetite" for reading

I bought this book for my newborn because I wanted her to grow up loving to read. When she was a few months old, she loved to chew on the soft cloth pages and stare at the brightly colored pictures. Then she learned how to turn the pages. Now at 10 months, she still loves to touch the 3-D part of each page and hear me read the simple rhymes.

We love all of the different objects and textures that she can touch and explore on each page:
1) Padded aqua turtle shell
2) Shiny metallic fish
3) Ribbon used as water from a whale spout
4) Padded pink vinyl crab shell
5) Silver seahorse fin
6) Green felt octopus tentacles
7) Pink oyster shell with satin inner lining
8) Terry cloth seahorse
9) Metallic seaweed rolls

This crinkly cloth book is easy for babies to hold and great for teething. It also keeps little hands busy during car rides. Although the manufacturer recommends surface cleaning only, I've successfully washed mine inside a mesh lingerie bag on the gentle cycle. And it still looks new...

Adorable Book.

This is such a good book for bedtimes, while it has nothing to do with magic and fairies and what not. It is great to relax your childs mind and let them have dreams of the dinosaurs. While I do not agree with the fighting in it I understand what they are trying to do. So every night I let my 18month son pick which book I will read to him, 3 out of 10 times he picks this one. Let me add we have several books to choose from. I say it helps calm them down because there are not very many pictures in here to excite their brain, just your voice to calm them. I do love the illustrations I believe they are absolutely adorable.

This is an outstanding story about Spike and his "family". It covers the hatching from the egg, the exploration of the wilderness, a big escape and also depicts the life of a baby dinosaur!

I thought the story was really cute and a couple of things caught my attention. Spike is not impressed with his older brother, Charger. You see Charger is the eldest of the babies and he thinks he is in charge. Well, after a butting of heads and a winner is declared, they become best friends. And, despite the warnings of their mother not to go into the wilderness, they both go exploring. Guess you can imagine where this one is going, right?

An excellent story for the little ones in your life and the author suggests it is for ages 3 - 10 and P - 4.

An excellent addition to the series

This is the second book in the series and I really enjoyed it. As I already said, Bren/Ullr is becoming my second favorite Asgardian (I am still a true Loki fan/addict). It is interesting to see the Norse mythology came into play in this book.

I like that Jenna is finally growing up, I do keep forgetting that she is a teenager and not an adult when she makes some of her decisions. But that is why the book is interesting, because you can see things through her teenage eyes and how her mind works. It gives the book a fresh perspective. I am glad that there is no cliffhanger but also that the story does leave the reader with the prospect that there is more to come. If you don’t want to read the next one (I hope that there is a next one), then you can just stop here. I am truly getting tired of cliffhangers and love authors who tie up the ending without a cliffhanger but still leave you wanting more. This book has a lot to offer the reader in terms of adventure, mystery, relationships, teenage angst, and mythology.
