Gr 7 Up—Avery West has been very careful not to form strong friendships and bonds, knowing that they will be lost every time she has to move because of her mother's job. When she meets Jack Bishop, a fellow new student at her school, everything changes. After a last-minute decision to attend prom with Jack, they are approached out of the blue by Stellan, who demands that Avery go with him and whom, strangely, Jack appears to know well. Soon Avery finds herself in a world of Keepers, the mandate, and The Circle of Twelve. Not only is her father alive and part of one of the secret families of The Circle, but he could possibly even be the head of one. There are secret societies Avery knows nothing about, and some of them want her out of the picture. The search for the truth takes her to Paris and Istanbul and finally, to her father. Hall sweeps readers into a world of conspiracies, puzzles, and mystery from the first page, and provides a likable and intelligent narrator in Avery. Perfect for fans of Rick Riordan's The Red Pyramid (2010), Ally Carter's "Gallagher Girls" series (both Hyperion), and Michael Scott's "The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel" (Delacorte).—Selenia Paz, Helen Hall Library, League City, TX

It wasn't like she was going to be around for long anyway
By Sarah @ Words with Sarah
This book has been on my Most Anticipated of 2015 since I first read the synopsis so many months ago. I have been waiting forever for it to come out and when it did, I thoroughly devoured it.

Avery has never stayed in one place for too long. Her mother's job keeps them moving constantly, so Avery stopped trying to make friends and to fit in. It wasn't like she was going to be around for long anyway. It wasn't until she was in Lakehaven, Minnesota and she wasn't the only new kid that things started to look different.

When Jack Bishop shows up, everyone wants to get to know him. Everyone is intrigued by him, but no one was more curious about him than Avery. To her, he was more then just a new kid. But then she finds a picture of herself that Jack had. That's when the questions start happening. Why does he have a picture of her when she's in her house?

Avery soon learns that she is apart of a family that basically rules the world. No joke, these people have some major influence on basically everything. Her family is apart of an elite secret society made up of 12 different families. So Avery went from just having her mother to having a huge fam-bam-clan, which she was super stoked about. Until she starts gets attacked by another secret society called the Order.

It's then that Avery started to question just exactly what she got herself signed up for when she agreed to be whisked away to Paris to meet her family.

If there is something that I love, it's secret societies and quests. The Conspiracy of Us gave me just that. Not only is the setting in America, it's also in Paris and Istanbul. And let me tell you, the scenes in Istanbul will make your mouth start watering for a gyro. But I mean, who doesn't love gyros? I know they're my favorite thing to eat at my local Greek festival.

I think this was brilliant debut from Maggie Hall. It gives readers a little bit of everything, from mystery, to badassery, to romance. It was just such an entertaining read, I couldn't put it down. If I tried, it just wouldn't work. I had to find out what was going to happen with Avery and I wanted to learn more about her family and their secret society.

And now, I am staring impatiently at my calendar, waiting for the next book because let me tell you that ending will have you scrambling to get the next one (Thank you for that, Maggie!!).

Overall, this book was a promising start to a really fun series and will have you falling for Jack and Stellan. I know I did.

An Intense thrill ride that you can't stop reading until the very end!
By Tawney
It's not often you find a young adult book that has action, adventure, treasure hunting with a slash of romance. I love international thriller books like this. I usually read such books in the adult fiction sections, like James Rollins, Dan Brown or Andy Mcdermott. I love these type of books because they have intense plot twists and great characters. Their the-edge-of-your-seat reads you can't put down. That's exactly what The Conspiracy of Us did. This YA suspense/thriller had me at the first turn of the page.

Avery West has moved so many times it's not beneficial to make friends. Her Mom's job takes them all across the country. They have no family but each other. Avery tries to keep to herself not to mention she knows nothing about her father, who she wonders about all the time. Her Mom never talks about him. But when mysterious gorgeous british accent Jack Bishop and the hot Russian bad boy Stellan approach her at prom, things begin to get strange. She's immediately taken to Paris to discover a long lost family.

Apparently this long lost family is looking for her and this family is importantly powerful because they basically rule the world. They are known as the Circle of 12. This elite secret society has made world decisions, wars, and has some of the most powerful, influential leaders as members. The Circle believes that Avery is some key to unlocking an ancient prophecy. Some want her for the answers they seek while others want her dead. Among all of this her father might be alive. Stellan and Jack are Keepers of this society charged with making sure Avery stays safe. Avery is taken around the world on a quest to find answers all the while being persuade by the Order, a society who wants to make sure that the Circle is destroyed.

I loved this book. Secret societies? Quests? Count me in. It was an action action packed book that had mysteries at every turn of the page. We're taken around the world from Paris to Istanbul. I felt for Avery and the secrets that were kept from her. She demanded answers even when the bullets were flying. I loved how Avery kept her cool but also showed emotion when needed. She was a realistic character that one could relate to. Both Jack and Stellan had their quirks. Jack was the intelligent down to earth guy while Stellan was the hot take action guy. The sexual tension between the boys and Avery was priceless! But the book wasn't about the romance but more the thrill of the quest.

Maggie did a wonderful job with weaving the mysteries throughout the book and all the while kept us in the dark from the truths. Her descriptions were so vivid they took my breath away. I felt like I was in the Prada store in Paris with Avery looking at dresses or on the streets of Istanbul eating gyros. Her words flowed smoothly and I felt every emotion on this fast pace adventure. The rich culture that surrounds the setting from the glittering balls in Paris to the clubs in Istanbul was intriguing and it felt like I took every step with Avery.

This was a fantastic debut from Maggie. Readers will enjoy the twisting plot and adventurous action that they won't be able to put the book down! This was a thrill ride that at every turn of the page I sat at the edge of me seat waiting to see what happened next.

Should you read it? Yes! Action packed with adventure, romance and secret societies, every reader will find this book thrilling. This first book to a trilogy promises more adventure and action in the next two. I will definitely be reading the next books and anything else that Maggie writes.

A conspiracy I intend to avoid...
By j.p. levi, author
I really wanted to like this book. I read the review that compared it to The da Vinci Code, one of my favorite mystery novels, and began reading with excitement. This quickly faded into a yawn as the first fifty percent of the book is neither exciting nor comprehensible. Flat, dull characters, repetitive dialogue, and a convoluted plot mix together to make the only real adventure just staying awake until the end. Add that to a love affair that forms about fifteen minutes after the two main characters meet and chapters devoted to the non-kiss kiss. Ugh!! But my biggest complaint of all is that this isn't a complete story, much less a complete novel. The mystery won't be solved until at least book two, or maybe even book three. Book one is just the stepping stone to the rest of the series. Nancy Drew would never do this to us. Or Trixie Belden. Or even the Hardy Boys. I, for one, don't intend to get caught up in this conspiracy. Book one is the end of this tired, dusty road for me.
