Uh-oh... this is probably going to lead to a request for Dino-Bots now!

We've been able to use many of the books we'd purchased for our oldest grandson while helping our middle one in his learning to read stage, particularly a super neat Spider-Man themed "I Can Read" book series (these "Passport to Reading" books by LB Kids are along the same line.) But our middle grandson has his OWN favorites, the "Rescue Bots" from the cartoon he loves, and we thought it was about time he had some books to call his own! We'll be including many of these nice little 32-page books along with several new "Rescue Bots" transformers as his 4th birthday gift, and we think he'll really enjoy them (though the imprinted price of $3.99 does seem a little high for these thin paperbacks.)
With different levels geared toward a youngster's skill level (as were the "I Can Read" books), you can find the one that best suits your child. The short words and simple sentence structures are perfect for a "just starting out" little person to read with an adult who can lend a hand if necessary; there are more complex stories in Level 2, which encourages a youngster to sound words out loud; Level 3 contains higher word counts and more complex sentences that help to boost a child's confidence level; and - with fewer illustrations and longer paragraphs - Level 4 helps them prepare for chapter books. Children will really enjoy learning to read when the subject matter interests them!
"Meet Optimus Primal" begins with a space inside the front cover for your youngster to write his/her name, then four pictures are shown (truck, hunter, blaster, frozen) for him/her to be looking for as the story goes along. The story starts out by explaining that Optimus Prime is the leader of the Rescue Bots (Boulder, Chase, Heatwave & Blades), and that not only can he transform into a powerful truck (which is the transformer our grandson has), but also Optimus Primal - a T. Rex dinosaur! (Uh-oh... this might lead to a future request for the available Dino-Bots!) The story proceeds with him in dinosaur form, taking his human friend (Cody) on a run through the forest, and outwitting a hunter who's after him until the hunter freezes Optimus in an icy mist trap. But Boulder comes his aid, changing into HIS dino mode as a triceratops (double uh-oh!), and they catch the hunter.
I think I actually preferred the "I Can Read" book series for one reason: they listed the Dolch "sight words" (the 220 most common words and 95 additional nouns in children's books) at the beginning of the book, which was great for reviewing purposes. This one does contain 43 of them, with a word count of 239. In case you're interested, others in the Rescue Bot series are: Meet Heatwave the Fire-Bot, Meet Chase the Police-Bot, Meet Blades the Copter-Bot, Meet Boulder the Construction Bot, Meet High Tide, The Mystery of the Pirate Bell, Return of the Dinobot, The Ghosts of Griffin Rock, Team of Heroes, Land Before Prime, Bots' Best Friend, Blast Off!, and Attack of the Movie Monsters.

Love, love, love

My 5yr old has been struggling to learn letter sounds. He eats, sleeps and breathes Rescue Bots, and this has really helped him to start recognizing words. At the beginning of each of these books, it gives 4 words for the child to find in the book and he insists that he must be the one to say those words when they come up in the story.The books take the highlights of one of the tv episodes, so the story is familiar and easier to follow along.
I need to add that he has severe ADHD which is causing severe struggles in learning, so these books are a God send.

We love all things Rescue Bots around here, and this book is no exception. My five year old preferred this book to a Star Wars early reader he got at the same time. It is written about a season 3 episode, "Quarry vs. Quarry". For the curious, it is at a reading level J.
