This is an excellent book for any educator implementing close reading strategies in the elementary classroom. It is easy to follow and includes many lessons that reach students of all levels within a single class. It was clear that the lessons in this book were designed for real kids from real classrooms. Each and every lesson was clear and effective as was evident by the growth in my student's understanding. Of all the training I have attended and reading I have done on this topic, it is this book that I turn to most often for practical solutions everyday. If you are looking for an easy to follow, practical, and effective book to clarify your teaching of close reading then I would highly recommend this book!

This book is an easy to use resource for implementing "close reading" in the classroom as outlined in the Common Core Standards. The book gave me ideas not only about how to implement close-reads, but also how to build a unit around close reading, including assessment items. The book includes tips about how to use novels in close reads, which I really was looking for, as most close reads are designed for short, one-page articles. Another helpful tip was creating close read guides for students, which I had not thought of before. Well worth the money- very helpful!
