teaching spelling skills

In today's world, we have computers to check the words for us, so people often neglect the important skill of spelling. But I really want my daughter to focus on the spelling practice, because it will help her to build the vocabulary she needs. This workbook came as a great help. This book meets common core state standards. It teaches spelling through suffixes, root words, homophones, reading and comprehension practice. It not only builds and boosts key skills, but also makes learning easy and fun. My daughter's favorite is the 200 gold reward stars, while I am really satisfied by the parents' section filled with answers, tips, and guidance. For more practice, we also use Beestar vocabulary program (a wonderful website beestar.org). It starts with well-explained new words, and then follows by ten challenging multiple-choice questions. It also has crossword puzzles and vivid articles to fill in missing words. In the Beestar online tests, she is ranked high in the honor roll. She's already seeing how the techniques help her in her normal vocabulary work. She is now probably the top student in her class. I’m very pleased with this book.

So much more than spelling words

I am so glad I picked this book for my soon to be 3rd grader. Just yesterday he learned about irregular verbs. The 1 page introduction to topics is great because he can get a taste of what the year ahead will be like. Each page takes about 10 minutes (when he stays focused on task).

the book is going to be fun for us to do in home schooling. only thing i don't like is that i find the words to be too easy for 3rd grader. but will use as a review tool and will be useful.
