About the Author
Susan Verde is the author of The Museum, illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds, which Kirkus described as “a sweet-natured and handsome celebration.” She teaches yoga to children and lives in East Hampton, New York. Peter H. Reynolds is the illustrator behind the mega-selling Judy Moody and Stink series, as well as many other bestselling and award-winning picture books, including The Dot and Ish. He lives in Boston.

A nice story of friendship, but very abstract for the little ones

SUMMARY: This is the story of a cat who is thinking back about how he became friends with his best friend. He thinks about all the little things that could have slowed him down and kept him from meeting his new friend.
ILLUSTRATIONS: The illustrations were created with ink, gouache, watercolor and tea. There are plenty of fun, but slightly muted colors and nice details.
THE GOOD: This is a story of friendship and how deep it can be.
THE NOT AS GOOD: This story is written for children, but is very abstract in nature. Little kids will not get the full effect of what it means to meet a friend because of "fate" and everything happening by the second in order for two people to meet. The abstract concept did not feel right for a children's book for this age range.
AGE RECOMMENDATION: Advertised for ages 5-7, but ages 8-10 would understand it better.

This picture book has completely captured my heart. I had the amazing opportunity of hearing Peter H. Reynolds (the illustrator) read You and Me at his bookstore, Blue Bunny Books and Toys. It brought tears to my eyes and reminded me of my best friend Sam. I am so thankful that life placed us together and that is what this book is all about.

This is a fantastic picture book to give as a gift to your very best friend. You and Me is a sweet tale of recalling how two friends met and imagining if the events of that day had been altered, how different life would now be. Adorable!
