Remarkable summer memoir - meet Andy!

This memoir takes its readers to rural Louisiana, back in the summer of 1949. It is the story of nine-year-old Andy; kindness, conflicts, friendship, adventures in this year influenced and/or strengthened his moral values.
With Everlasting Cronies, Andy Oldham has created a compelling slice of his memoirs. The story he is telling is heart-warming. His story-telling is incredible - I was there, able to see, smell, hear, feel. Everlasting Cronies is an entertaining, gripping and carefully paced read, making you want to read more about Andy's past. I was drawn into the memoir right away. I felt very close to Andy and everything that happened; I was so close that I occasionally, chuckled, drew my breath or even cried. All characters are so authentic that I easily 'related' to them, most of them are very likeable, a few seem rather despicable. This is a remarkable memoir, nursing hope and joy - hats off to Andy Oldham!

This book is not just a memoir. The story is a great presentation of Southern culture in the 1940's. Excellent descriptive writing and detailed explanation places this bit of history under the classification of ethnography. While reading the story I felt as if I were right there with the boys stalking an 1800 pound prize bull with my Red Ryder BB gun. How could a BB gun destroy such an animal? And, why would two different men from two different races sacrifice their lives? How could a black boy and a white boy become life-long friends in the deep South in the 1940's?
Anyone having difficulties dealing with the death of someone close should read this story and it's healing approach to coping with death.

Everlasting and Unforgettable Memoir

As a nine-year-old, any adult living in a small southern town can remember his own cast of old men who made a profound impression on him. The author weaves his own cast of old cronies in a touching way who teach him about personalities, life, and death. His experiences with his best friend are memorable.
